Yea, that is what I was thinking. But at the same time the ml would likely accuse mc of trying to get attention if Mc attempted that. Instead of having a realization that he, ml, is the problem.
Probably I have seldomly seen such an oblivious ml, and there's many oblivious ml's in these stories but he takes the cake
I don't understand people thinking the Mc is dumb, he is essentially a hostage. He tried everything to get away from ml. Ml refused to accept no because he is selfish (yeah he doesn't really know what happened, but he also couldn't be bothered to care).
It would be genuinely crazy for Mc to trust ml right now. With his feelings, the truth, or basic facts of their reality. Mc has essentially nothing to live for he is basically listless. Ml knows that, but he doesn't care, because he still intents to use Mc and pretend Mc owes him something.
