In the early chapters 1 and 2 geumryang said he weakens day by day and that taesun should bear ‘his seed’ so his offspring can take his place. I think that geumryang was either way going to leave the world because he wasn’t that powerful anymore to protect the mountain. Maybe he is just taking tha pace of taesuns lifespan so they can leave together when the children are ready to take over.
