HONESTLYYY i had when authors do this... everything gets boring and all of sudden they HAVE to bring a cheating plot into the mix.. it's always either that or amnesia plot (but honestly amnesia>cheating imo)
Yeah it's like... Such a heavy fcking thing to go back from emotionally. Amnesia is fine, when the character eggs their memories back usually everything goes back to normal. If one of the characters sees a damning moment that REALLY appears like cheating and they genuinely believe it, emotionally they're experiencing the same thing as if they did actually cheat. And I don't know if you can go back from that...
