Why do stories I read recently not make sense?

I actually have my own answer to this question but I don’t know if I’m right. There are two main reasons why. First is different scanlation groups use different wording for important plot devices and characters. This usually isn’t that bad if you can relate the two different names they use. This way you can understand a story even if it has multiple uploaders. However I find this increasingly hard to do when the number of uploaders are too large.

Second is the quality of the translation. A lot of scanlation groups don’t have professional translators and they vary in English literacy. The divide between really good translations versus really terrible ones is extreme. Oftentimes they sound like a machine translation that had one proofread by a sixth grader with barely passable English grades.

Now I understand that the lack of good translations is not due to a lack of trying or laziness. People are doing this for free or pennies because piracy is not a profitable business by any measure. It’s literally making expensive media free or super cheap and accessible. It’s just frustrating when the stories I read don’t “speak my language”. If I had a babel fish this would not be an issue and I would just read the raw for every story in its original form. I don’t though so I guess all I’m trying to say is… go train your English for another 200 years you bozos. (/TДT)/
