basically or jaeyoung here got drugged by his own bandmate, now what this drug does is that it attacks your dopamine receptors, it's the neurotransmitter that controls our joy or happiness. when you experience yourself being overjoyed by something the highs of feelings happy in certain moments or life is induced by dopamine, this neurotransmitter also plays a role in addiction, for most addicts when they do drugs for the first time they feel such a rush of dopamine so euphoric so high in life that nothing can compare, and with some genetic susceptibility and bad crowd anyone can easily fall into addiction. the more you do drugs the more your brain and body gets used to it, the more your dopamine receptors full down, the person becomes unable to feel any sort of dopamine induced happiness unless it's stimulated by something super intense. so you need a higher and higher dose to feel and chase that euphoric feeling. and that's how addicts unfortunately die, they end up overdosing and overdoing to the point they die. this happy drug that jaeyoung unfortunately consumed is so strong it instantly dulls someone's dopamine receptor to such an extent they're unable to feel that happiness, here serotonin which is also a neurotransmitter comes into play, without going into too much details, it's linked to dopamine they work together as messengers, controlling your mood, sleep and motivation. so if your dopamine receptors are fucked and so is your serotonin receptors which is the case for jaeyoung you will feel demotivated, hard time feeling any sort of joy or happiness, things or hobbies or company of people who brought you this serene or happy feelings would not make you will stop experiencing that, which also makes you irritable in some cases. this happy drug is an instant immobilizer, where most drugs make you come back and back to ultimately become reliable on it, happy drug instantly makes you reliant on it which makes it harder for the person who has even consumed it once to go back to their usual life. it's downright evil and disgusting what that white haired guy did to jaeyoung. I would say jaeyoung is really resilient that he didn't go back to the drug or maybe because he's pretty unaware about it because it's such a new drug and doesn't hang around such circles where it would be easy for him to get it. either way he's in a static, usually depression of any kind is only diagnosed after persistant depressive episodes (which can be only diagnosed if they last for 6 months or over that) according to DSM5, I won't diagnose him or anything but symptoms are definately there for him. hope I made it easy enough to understand sorry if it's too lengthy also as a kpop music consumer of over a decade I agree sm with your earlier sentiment.

this hits too hard in relation to the real kpop industry. so many innocents are left impacted and end their lives over this stuff and the culprits always walk away guilt free... at least the netizens weren't crazy in this for now??? we won one battle with that lol
also can sm dumb down the drug explanation and explain any drastic differences from similar real life ones bcs i kinda glossed over it? i know similar drugs affect the synapse by continuously flooding it with the neurotransmitters which trigger that feel good high and that this eventually causes your body to have decreased sensitivity to those neurotransmitters even when naturally occuring which is kinda the basis for most drugs but is it worse than them?
