I’m going to put spoilers below but for now this is surface level to the first season: While the art and direction the manhwa took is fine, it’s definitely missing that closeness and simultaneous isolation the MC felt while working at phantom. Even more so, I feel like skipping the initial reason beginning with the surf scenes and any small snippets with his cousin and noona, made it again seem less to what their relationship was actually like between all three.
Now with spoilers: The initial meeting with manager Han would’ve been nice to give, again, more structure go the story and the reason he even appeared at phantom. Him just popping up like a daisy with not showing how he’s working at the moving company, just any job he can get - again does a disservice to show how quickly they ran out.
Idk I just feel like you can tell more in the novel how much the MC thought and felt - despite being “emotionless”
An example is how much he actually didn’t like shushu at first. You see maybe a lil of his hurt face, But there was so much more to the internal conflict he felt about him. Even some thought bubbles about how bitter he felt about the initial meeting and how nice he was to defend him but how it still left him feeling hollow would’ve been nice.
I think my favorite part and show of his isolation was the thoughts he had pre Hong Kong. They only scrap the surface of how he felt when staring at the pictures of all three of em - Liu, yuni, and yohan. I really felt for him that he knew he was there, he was part of the group and yet not quite in the way he wanted to mesh with them. There was still a disconnect there with how he and Liu were interacting along with his growing attraction/crush and how close yuni and yohan were in a way that mirrored his cousin and noona but not romantically. Continuing that cycle of feeling like there was space, but not in that way, where he still felt like an outsider.
So it’s even more bittersweet when he starts feeling he has that close connection with Liu. The feelings that continue as he finds it… good, nice, enthralling even that Liu has the same feelings as him, or at least hoping to. They’re a quiet couple, not putting into words their relationship at first but by god is it fast and hard how quickly the two get entangled with each other.
And I just feel like continuing the story, they gotta have that backing for the manhwa becuz if not then the MC falls flat.
Going even further into spoilers territory!!! Be warned:
I love that the changing becomes what shatters that to him. That he had imagined he had built a strong net the way the others had. Before even all that as he wistfully thinks about how close yuni and yuhan are, he thinks to himself, “hey i got that in director liu” and it’s around that time you as the reader are finding out about the changing so it becomes even more bitter sweet to see how they interact.
I just feel like not adding even those tiny interactions between the MC and his friends makes that sense of betrayal not quite as strong? As in, like clearly him doing that shit is going to be impactful, but it wasn’t just him taking his body and changing it without his consent - it’s that he kept something so big from him after the MC had felt like he laid himself bare for Liu. And he legit draws him as the bunny from Alice in wonderland becuz he feels like everything about the life he got to live during the time was magical and it was thanks to Liu so it’s even more of a damage to his person when he finds out - but they don’t really dig too deeply into him and those thoughts either.
Anyway, aside from that this story is so good. Like so so good. I just hope they divulge more of their relationships and interpersonal thoughts when it gets closer to the mess becuz even I felt a mess when their relationships (both friendships and stuff) started falling apart and things came back entirely different becuz everyone changed.
