You have been manipulated, brainwashed and mentally abused by a broken person from a young age, so now you are ready to sell your soul for her. Honestly, I actually feel bad for Herman, ofc the things he did both in this and in past life were unforgivable, but I believe what he feels is not love, but trauma bonding; he feels deeply and unhealthily attached to his abuser (yes, she technically mentally abused him for years since he was a teenager)
