In response to all the hiatus queries... indefinite hiatus...

Guys, I am so sad. It seems that Raise wa tanin ga ii is on an indefinite hiatus. On Mar 27, 2024, the author stated on X:

"The manga "I Want Someone Else in My Next Life" will be on hiatus for a while due to various circumstances. This is not due to health issues or anything of the sort. The resumption date is undecided, but I will inform you again when it resumes."
(Translated from Japanese)

The reasons for hiatus is not elaborated on but this Reddit post has theorised 3 reasons for the hiatus, with reason 1 being most likely:

Summary:

1. Dispute between the author and the publisher (Kodansha). Kodansha apparently kept going against the mangaka's artistic vision, constantly editing their works, AND THE RUMOUR that the mangaka didn't want an anime adaptation (I'm sad and would not be surprised because the anime adaptation was so ass), and trying to change the genre from seinen to shoujo/jousei.

2. Mangaka has expressed concerns about privacy sites and their lack of remuneration relating to their work

3. Losing passion/inspiration for their work. I think this goes in combination with the other two reasons. I can't imagine the author feeling passionate when their work is constantly degraded by the publisher, and they're not adequately remunerated.

(rumour relating to anime adaptation) Japanese animation studios usually respect the author's wishes when it comes to anime adaptations, and if they went against the author's wishes or pressured them, it would be so disrespectful.

Also, knowing the author's past work (haru no noroi, which I loved), it's clear the author engages with dark themes and is NOT a shoujo author. For the publisher to try to change that is crazy...

I still hope this makes a comeback, but... this is pretty gutting.
