I started reading this after watching the kdrama #TeachYouALesson and I have no regrets. I was shocked people called the author an anti-feminist but evidence points to the fact that they are definitely NOT. That elementary school teacher was a full-blown misandrist in the making. She was way too extreme especially considering the fact that she was dealing with elementary school kids. As a feminist, I could not align with the way she presented her views.

Regarding the racist allegations, I wouldn’t go so far as to call the author a racist but I would call them ignorant about matters relating to racism. As an African, I found it a bit distasteful and if anything, the author had no business delving into such a topic with no proper research or preparation. I actually tried to read that chapter with an open-mind, no matter what, but it was so poorly thought out and executed and it seemed so out of place and was more like the only blemish in what I consider a masterpiece. Still, the fact that they ended that arc midway and apologized is what I find commendable because a lot of other authors would have still adamantly soldiered on and ignored the readers’ complaints.

That being said, I absolutely loved reading this manhwa and I would continue following up with it. At first I didn’t warm up to Daniel Hyun after that first case he handled but I have come to love him. He is just so ruthless and I love the fact that he doesn’t even need to get violent to get you where he wants you. He is a master at waging psychological warfare against perpetrators

But I’ve heard this is not one of the authors first controversies regarding race so it’s hard to believe it’s just ignorance. Regardless of if he was educated on the subject or not, he would have definitely continued with that dogshit arc if the complaints weren’t as outspoken and he didn’t get literally kicked off of webtoon. The author villainized the mixed race student so much and I honestly think it was just a scenario the author made up to justify his xenophobia.

And It wasn’t like the story in chapter 42 was focused on promoting anti-misandry either, it was just making the feminist teacher seem like a man hater who believed men should be discriminated against which is not what feminism is supposed to represent. I have heard so many cases of men in South Korea assuming that feminism is just a “female supremacy” movement, and men are actually the marginalized although women face thousands of cases of assault and violence committed against women every year in South Korea, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the author thought that as well.
I understand the appeal of the manhwa because I liked it at one point but if this isn’t racism and misogyny literally what else is
