It really tackles several things about the amish. We know Danny hates the idea of people leaving the amish, but I feel like we also get the emotions of the weight people leaving the amish feel in this pre/sequel, the guilt of having to leave uproot from family because the lifestyle isn't for them. It also tackles a part of the fact that many amish people may not have the necessary help to settle into the modern world because their families don't use technology or they ran away without saying goodbye. Vital information like their social security number despite being born in the country and health records and not having contacts to help them settle, they're just not in the system
