well basically Grayson doesn't know what emotions is, that's why a lot of people think he's an asshole but to put it simply he's just unaware of what he should be feeling to a certain situations, that's where dane plays a huge impact to gray's life

They tried, but he was diagnosted wrong. They told them that he is unable to feel emotions, while as it is discribed in the story it sounds more like a heavy case of Alexithymia. He can feel emotions, but is unable to recognize them.
