It's not uncommon for Korean words to have multiple meanings depending on the context it's used in; although the direct translation of 낳다 is "to birth", it can also mean to produce, cause, or result in an outcome. So I think it probably translates closer to something like him saying I created you / who you are is a product of who I am, etc. Hope that helps it feel less icky!
