They've no idea how a simple word heard by a kid can fuck up that kid's entire lives and those around the kids from internalised homophobia. The idea of only being acceptable when something/someone is "perfect" and a "winner" can really destroy lives too. I don't like adultery but I can see why it was in the story, although I never understood why cheaters can't just break it off with their partners first instead if they're unhappy. Anyway, this was an intense read, the ending was worth it.
