I feel like the author won't pull a "there's actually this thing that make them both live forever ヾ(☆▽☆)" just cause it kinda cheapens the lesson presented with the grandfather's death. All good things must come to an end and life is no different, it is the fact that time runs out that makes it so precious. Maybe our snake will give up his God hood to age with our mc, orrr possibly live long enough to see his reincarnation?ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ﾉ~
