We gotta give props to Minakata. Without him, I'm pretty sure Ichi would've killed a lot of people by now. Sure, killing intent can be straight forward, but sometimes it comes at the cost of misunderstanding (brainwash, manipulation, accidentally mistaking someone for the wrong target, etc.).
What Minakata taught Ichi (hold back his instinct for bloodlust) proved quite helpful in some scenarios, namely the time where Gokuraku was being controlled by that misery majik. Though it's clear Ichi can't properly handle it yet and can only fully stop unless it's Minakata himself who calls out to him.
It's been told to us at the start of the story, so there'll definitely be a time where Ichi has to conquer this instinct of his or it ends up becoming his downfall (someone close to him may die because of it).
