Obviously, I’ve been reading this manhwa for 5+ years, and have seen how it’s progressed through the years. My opinion comes from the sparse updates, as well as the complete run-through!
In terms of characterisation - this is stellar. I think it’s the best part of this story. The characters make sense, someone who has lived for centuries as a sword would be cold and unfeeling. A lot of reincarnation manhwas fail to capture this, with the MC behaving very much as a regular person with some vital “knowledge”, as opposed to a lived experience. The ML also continues his characteristic of being obsessive throughout. They evolve, sure, but it doesn’t feel jarring or sudden. Instead, I am convinced every time that this is the very same person throughout the story, even with the time skips.
I think it falls a little short when talking about romance, however. Charlize’s progression was rather sudden, and the only hint of reciprocal intimacy was the very chapter she revealed to Dylan that she might care for him. Before that, there was no indication to the readers that she might even have slight feelings for him. I get the argument that they’re supposed to portray her unfeeling, cold nature, but wasn’t he supposed to be the exception (and therefore being the FOCAL point of the story being a romance)? I think it could’ve definitely begun better, but towards the main arc, it was definitely better developed.
In terms of plot, well. I have nothing to say besides the fact that it wasn’t necessary to draw it out. None of it made sense (like introducing random powers and names, and lore at the crux of the battle) and seemed rushed to me. But, hey ho, I read it for the romance.
But overall, truly, I enjoyed it so much. 4.8/5 from me.
