I think deep down he knows he's being used. He's not stupid, just blinded by puppy love. If not, then he's just so used to it that he thinks it's normal. Either way, it's really sad. I get the sense that he's clawing at life as hard as he can to find anything resembling happiness, but this is all he's got to work with for some reason.

As for the professor, his situation is far worse than I initially expected. Ouch. What a thing to be told by a parent on her deathbed. She probably didn't mean it the way he took it, but I don't blame him for thinking that way, either. It's probably pretty common for illegitimate kids to think that way, especially if there's a strong stigma attached to it.

Adopted kids can feel that way too, even if their families are very loving and stable, even if it was the best decision for their situation. There's always a sense of otherness, fear of abandonment, a resentment that can drive their anger without them even realizing it at times.

Anyway, his mom probably felt like she failed him. While there's no such thing as a perfect parent, she seemed sweet and loving, but ultimately, she couldn't give him what he needed most: a stable home and a father, I'll bet. I just hope he can forgive her someday. I don't think he has yet.

The professor certainly seems very depressed and hopeless, but this and other scenes tell me something is smoldering, and has been for a very long time. I'm wondering if he could be a potential powder keg with a really long fuse, and Bido is just itching to light a match...
