okay, first off, that was such a peak shoujo manga, and i still can’t wrap my head around it.
it started off pretty boring, to be honest. i read chapters 1–20 in like a week, but then i read chapters 20–72 in one night. how is that even possible?
so, it started off pretty regular, i would say. it’s like a regular shoujo manga, but the issues and the actual story are just very deep and hit me hard, actually.
first of all, when they broke up, bro, i was bawling my eyes out. i literally have never cried like this before because of a shoujo manga. this isn’t supposed to be angst. what the hell was that about?
not to mention that when they broke up, the song playing on my speaker was “the apartment we won’t share” by niki. and then when her childhood friend invited her to the amusement park, it was literally giving “backburner.” that’s crazy, and i cried again there.
and then the fact that they broke up because they love each other too much just hurts so, so, so much. even if i think about it right now, i could still cry about it because it is that sad to me.
i know it’s not good. their relationship is pretty toxic, but the toxicity is directed toward themselves, not each other. so it’s just very, very sad.
and then i did not expect this at all, but she literally went to england to see him. that’s crazy. i thought he was going to be the one going back to japan, but nope. it’s very unpredictable in that part, but also very unrealistic. but who cares? it’s fictional.
oh, and i forgot to talk about the teacher. i think we still didn’t get any closure about her friend and the teacher, whether they’re actually going out or not. i have mixed feelings about them because obviously you can’t date a minor, and waiting for that minor to become an adult is also pretty fucked up. but i’m still hoping we get a little closure about what they’re doing in the future.
also, the teacher was very hot when he was leaning against the wall. like, what the hell? i had to sit up and just… oh my god. he’s so hot
and i saw the sister and the boss relationship coming from the very first time they met. i already had this feeling they were going to end up together, and they actually did. i’m so happy.
and then it’s sad again toward the end. the last chapter about her grandpa and grandma absolutely destroyed me. the fact that her grandpa wasn’t beside her grandma wasn’t because he didn’t love her, but because he loved her so much and wanted her to see something she really wanted to see. he just really wanted to make that dream come true for her.
but i guess it wasn’t quite right because she probably would have rather had him there with her. and i cried again during that last chapter. it was so sad.
overall, this is such a peak shoujo manga. i would literally recommend it to everybody. it’s not cringe, it’s not generic. sure, it starts off a little boring, but it’s genuinely great.
i don’t usually cry over stuff like this, but this manga really hit me hard because i’m also struggling with independence and dependence on other people. i know that when you’re dependent on someone and you realize it, and then you want to step away from that dependence and become independent, it’s really difficult. it takes a huge amount of effort and time.
