Its too realistic acc. Usually in Asian families the extended family know about the abuse, usually not this bad but still, they know. But out of fear of ruining reputations and having to deal w the aftermath they ignore it and pretend to not see. The uncle and the mom are pieces of shit
ALSO i think that him outing him was lowk a good thing outta everything couldve done. He got him out of that situation without having cheol feeling guilt, usually when ur patents are abusive its so hard to cut them off bc theyre still ur parents, so minyoung lowk saved him from a life perpetually in his little brothers shadow
I can see what you're saying, I like your perspective but Cheol is still kinda living in his brother's shadow. His dad still compares the two of them, still abuses him and Cheol being outed is what forced him to be in a marriage that he didn't actually want to be in.
He just did it to make his father get off his back a little and because the woman that Cheol married had money. But we see that literally right after they got divorced, the dad beat him again. He might've been able to get out of his father's grasp at least a little bit but nothing has ultimately changed. Minyoung isn't the worst out of everyone in Cheol's life who's done him dirty, but his slate damn sure isn't clean. I still root for him though.
I hate Cheol's whole family, they can all jump off a cliff for all I care. This might be a hot take but I think the uncle is the worst in the family. Yeah I know the dad and brother abuse him and all that, but the uncle has been fully aware of how horrible of a person the dad is since they were young and never actually stepped in.
He claims that Cheol was "his first kid" but never lifted a fucking finger to help Cheol get out of his situation despite knowing that Cheol was being abused and the fact that Cheol loved and looked up to him so much. He literally told the uncle as a kid that he wished that the uncle was his father instead. And now, even as an adult he has the audacity to act shocked and confused when he finds out that Cheol is still being abused.
I was on his side in the beginning but this chapter pissed me smooth off. No one ever lifted a finger to help Cheol in his entire life except Minyoung. But if we're being real, even Minyoung is still guilty for making life worse for Cheol because he outed him to his dad, knowing how abusive he was. Yeah he might've had his reasons but HE NEVER FUCKING APOLOGIZED FOR IT.
Cheol has been a victim his entire life and I really feel for him. Anybody who calls him weak or pathetic can actually kiss my ass.
