It's very similar to Exploratory Battle in style and story but not the same.
It takes place in university and the MC's friend convinces him to join a club. I think it might've been student council but I'm not sure.
MC encounters ML at the first meeting for this club. There's an instance where another member of the club says something stupid to the newcomers/freshmen. ML, who is only a freshman, spoke up against the senior member and instantly got a lot of attention.
From this and other instances, there's conflict between the senior club members and the newer club members. Even tho MC isn't as bad as other seniors, he's seen as complicit bc he doesn't stand up against the other members so ppl dislike him, including ML.
There's one more interaction I remember where MC is sleeping in the club room but overhears a convo about a female club member and ML. The MC steps in and tells ppl not to gossip. Nobody knows but ML heard the entire thing and how MC stood up for him.
