The whole joian situation is just a mess. Let's not pretend it's TJ fans antagonizing them. It's just them being so bitter about the canon end that they came up with bs to feed their delusions. Anyone could tell the backgrounds were just random American cities but to Jo stans it was Chicago and Ian was living with Jo even tho we are made aware that after being rejected Jo left and went to study abroad. He wasn't in the states and by the time he comes back it's also made clear that during that time tjian are back together living together. How was the Chicago delusion even holding any water?? Am I missing something? Someone said that the second love interest syndrome ruined the story and it's absolutely true. Like let that shit go. It's abhorrent how those Jo fans act like scorned lovers when they're the ones that went into the story with set expectations from misleading internet discourse.
Anyone who's read the story for what it is can tell you Jo never had a chance and as painful as that is to hear that's the point of his character. The irony of the character with the saviour complex trying to save someone who didn't need saving is good writing objectively. He also grew up from the experience and that's why he wishes Ian happiness cz he realised your lover is meant to be seen not saved. That apparently is incomprehensible to Jo fans. They can't accept that Jo Ian was mid and only depth to it was that they were fucking, they never truly bonded emotionally cz that needs absolute honesty and truthfulness that Ian was never willing to give Jo. Jo's insecurities and jealousy towards tj didn't make things better for their relationship, he just became a bitter guy even to the very end, he is disturbed that TJ holds more place in Ian's life than him.
Ian absolutely led Jo on and that's the point of his character for someone who didn't really take time to figure out his feelings and just assumed he needed to get away from TJ of course he was going to hurt someone. Jo was the perfect willing victim. Wanted to be wanted and in this context was shallow as they come. Mans thought a camping trip and cooking for Ian was gonna score him points. Love will always be about knowing someone for who they truly are and still choosing them. Joians relationship just didn't have that.
