The reason to drop

Helenium June 18, 2026 8:17 pm

ve seen this trend on TikTok where people tells the reasons why they dropped/never want to read the manhwas and it made me realize that i actually have so many lmao

1- if the fl/ml too basic or cliche
Sometimes the author makes the fl weak, clumsy and confused, I just can’t stand it. Or sometimes they make fl overly confident or overly strong and that just makes all the things unrealistic. Also they make the fl too “beautiful” that every man is head over heals for her like they fight for her. They make the fl seem like she’d flawless no bad characteristics just pure innocence. Even a the best people has flaws so making them innocent like a child drives me mad and disgusts me. Sometimes they make the fl too irrational like shealways jumps into conclusions or makes too bold decisions. I get the point of being bold but sometimes they make it too bold and it comes irrational.

For the appearance specifically in historical manhwas they make the fl unrealistic hair colors although its not a completely a turn off but it makes me a little uneasy. Sometimes they fo overboard like making the characters hair like magenta or cyan, I might read awful manhwas that contains these unrealistic hair colors so I think now im associate the hair colors with the quality pf the manhwas. Also im fine with the fl having a basic appearance however if they are going to have a basic look then the personality should be outstanding or other way around.

As for ml the cliche of being strong, rich and flawless is a big turn off for me. They always protective have political power or physical strength, why no flaws?? Im not talking about being toxic (making the ml also overly toxic is also a big no no for me)
Im talking about having flawed personalities, like if the ml has political strength then he could have insecurities or Mayberry could not have a status. They always come to rescue the fl in the perfect time… they are never late always arrive at a perfect timing. Also I never get the point of rescuing the fl cant she just rescue herself doing just anything or at least fight back in her way..?
The ml is always a ceo, manager, count duke, king, high magician, general while fl being a maid, peasant, commoner, lower class aristocrat, mistress, secretary but never other way around. Its ofc not a complete turn off but pattern is making me sick. Why cant ml be a normal soldier, a bartender, lower class aristocrat, shopping associate, assistant, secretary, middle/lower class etc…
Sometimes in historical manhwas they make the ml also overly friendly, they always act like everyone is their friend including the lowerclass. In historical eras aristocratic men was almost never overly friendly with commoners or servents, infact they acted cocky. Sometimes they also make the ml too aggressive as if they could explode in any moment. Mind you in old society men had to maintain some sort of their image in order to fit in, they wanted to look confident and composed so acting overly aggressive and protective is almost an ick for me. Also authors make the ml fall in love with the fl immediately like as if they were destined to fall in love. They never have a proper conversation but now that man can destroy a whole country for that fl… where is the relationship developed..???

2- the relationships
Like in many historical manhwas the fl always has always a maid sidekick that they treat that maid as a friend or thematic is overly friendly/absolutely loves being a maid. There is nothing bad that treating someone specifically a maid however fls in historical manwhas almost always has a high status, and unfortunately treating a maid like its your friend is uncommon and unrealistic. I’m not saying they should be mean but being overly friendly is against their status and social norms for that times. And who actually wants to or loves being a maid?? At old times maids gone through a harsh labor cooking, cleaning… and worked as maids bc woman’s had no choice other than being a maid or some owed debts to pay to the lord. The relationship between a aristocrat lady and a maid should be like coworkers relationship if the artist/writer wants them to have some kind of relation. It doesn’t make me drop it imidiatly however I kinda question the quality.
Also Somehow the ml and fl always end up with a major misunderstanding, instead of confronting each other they could’ve to run away from each other. If that plot is well planned and done I don’t mind that much but sometimes there is just to much misunderstanding over and over again and that drives me crazy.

3- unrealistic plots
For an example contract marriage plots
Although there is a few exceptions, most of them are not enjoyable to read. Bc why would a duke/count/king want a contract marriage?? Like there is no benefit for them. Specially when they say “this contract will expire in 1 year and free that we are going to divorce and go on with our live like we used to” or “you’re going to bear an heir for me I’ll going to give you money and after that we are going to eb strangers” first of all divorcing was a scandalous act even for a man, they sometimes lost their political powers or political relations, bc divorcing was a sin and everything evolved around religion. The families dignity would be shattered, they would be seen as a untrustworthy family etc. 2. If a man needs a heir and has a high status he could just pick a girl to marry without a contract. 3. There was no such a thing like “I have to be seen married but I don’t want to be married. So I can make a contract” if you needed to seen married then you had to be married. You could not talk about feelings when it’s comes to marriage. And those times being not married as an aristocrat was not a common option, plus it was seen as a political arrangement.

4- unrealistic times/usage of inventions
For an example the clothings. Ml always wears a modern suit while fl wears puffy dresses… if you want to make fl wear puffy dresses then you gotta change the ml clothes aswell… those times where females wore puffy dresses males did not wore modern looking suits they wore tight pants almost like capris…

5- using too much of premade brushes/patterns/art.
I get it, drawing takes times and completing a whole chapter in one week is a very hard job however using the premade brushes or art too much kills the vibe. I don’t need to see the broaches or madellion all the time, in fact men did not wore them all the time unless they are attend to an important event or I don’t need to see the whole detailed pattern of the dress. Honestly just simple driven clothes are just perfect.

I think this was it… I don’t have much more do tou guys have any???

similar to point n 4 but i hate when artists use raw 3d models and BGs; i know it takes a lot of time to draw them, but son

Another point is when the cover is drawn by a completely different artist. For example, the cover art is drawn with an art style that has a more hand-drawn feel like pencil lineart, and the actual art for the comic is just generic.

This!!! Sometimes the artist that I like draws the cover so I jump into the conclusion that they are the actual artist of the story but then the art style is completely different

So real… I get it and I dont expect them to draw everything however they dont blend the 3d models into the art, they leave them as it is making them too noticeable… it looks so fake

To #1 so you read 5% of manhwas and thought that "yeah everything is the same"? Where infact you chose to read mainstream and ignored the gems that laying around? And will yap because "why does ml is alway on top while fl is always on bottom? Why not the other way around?" There are manhwas that had that plot. I just forgot their title because i am too lazy to add everything i read in my library. So sorry i cant be much help. But i just wanna let you know that there are manhwa like that even manga and manhua. Anyway, i stop reading romance a long time ago, i only read yaoi and bl because they felt more realistic but jinx ruins it for me. Luckily i read unsleep and finally my love for yaoi ignite!
