This story truly pisses me off. Taekjoo is a secret service agent for south korea and yet he never truly showcases his intelligence as in the end, zhenya always one ups him. Zhenya also never truly gets his consequence after raping and sexually assaulting taekjoo. His closest thing to a "punishment" was him becoming more caring and devoted to taekjoo. Which would be fine, if taekjoo wasn't still completely under him. I mean, seriously. There are minimal points in the story where taekjoo finally gets the upper hand, and he always gets raped, or sexually coerced. A lot of people frame this story as a unique BL that features psychological and spy thrillers, but its heavily overshadowed by scenes where taekjoo is dumbed down so the following sex scenes makes sense. As a rape survivor, I feel truly disheartened and frustrated at his situation. In the novel, from what my friends have told me, he and zhenya ends up together permanently and went to korea, basically living a "never-ending honeymoon" while zhenya integrates himself into taekjoo's life in korea (aka his mom and his language). This means taekjoo never truly escaped his stockholm situation. He ends up WITH his rapist and the rapist never gets his punishment while basically living his wet dream of getting Taekjoo all to himself. This story never punishes zhenya's actions and instead makes taekjoo fit into zhenya's situation and wishes instead. The "karma" is being emotionally dependant on the man he WANTS and getting his dream happily ever after. Taekjoo basically ends up as a living sex toy who is happy inside his cage, which again, is extremely disheartening to me. This reads less as a well written BL thriller and just..... hentai. :( This is just my opinion, you guys are free to read this media and obviously I can't control you all. Sadly.
