So I'm at chap 60 smth and this is my theory of what goes on: Not only Ines, but multiple people have retained memories of the past lives. However only Ines and the mysterious cloaked person (who's most probably Emiliano) remember them consciously, while others like Carcel and Oscar remember in a subconscious level.
Which is why Carcel could make the absurd guess of Ines having a past lover who was so humble he didn't deserve to take her virginity, and also wonders why she didn't marry Oscar and has a memory of dressed up Ines walking arm in arm with Oscar (with the same outfit we see her use multiple times in the 1st life, but how would Carcel know this outfit if she never wore it in the 3rd life?).
It's also obvious Carcel was in love with Ines ever since the first life, and he likely never got married and fooled around because he knew Ines was beyond his reach. Oscar likely doesn't remember anything, but he does recall his obsession with Ines which is why in the 3rd life he kept waiting for her to change her mind and didn't marry until he was 28.
I'm really looking forward for Ines to tell Carcel the truth or for him to remember it on his own, and I'd also like to know what was his reaction in the first life when he found out Ines killed herself with the gun he gifted her.
