I initially stopped reading this because I thought it was a Killing Stalking clone.
Holy shit am I glad I gave it a second chance because this is one of the best manhwas I've ever read. It's really violent and angsty in the beginning for a reason, but the way the characters are fleshed out and evolve is incredibly well written. I couldn't stop reading. The central theme of powerlessness in the face of overwhelming injustice, being nothing more than a "pawn" in a game of (Korean) chess, is explored in ways that aren't tropey or surface-level either.
There is rape, and there is dubcon, but the mistreatment of sex workers is an important part of the story.
