Could've been possible if there were two culprits. One guy could be a wuss all bark without bite with his threatening letters and the other one who actually did serious damage—his car and beating him up. The threats seems like they were there long before he chatted with the guy in the dating app.

I think the stalker is the guy yesol catfished in the beginning yk like men have fragile ego and that guy must have been pissed and the way he used to text frequently means he got free time on his hand. And even the car smashing it happened right after it.
