Yes, according to the novel, the ML is going to end up with Ellie. This is just my opinion, but I think it's because the author seems to admire America a lot. I've noticed that the story often highlights America's power and influence. Even though Ellie is half British and half Hong Kong Chinese, she's still a foreigner, which makes me feel that this may have influenced the author's decision as well.
