Age gap is lowk not really a problem, 7 years is still diabolical sure but it's pretty mild for a shojou manga. In my opinion, though, I feel like this story would work better if it was a brother/sister relationship. Something like Sawada and Miyamura in Horimiya. Found family type of thing instead of a romance, the dynamic just seems to fit better even early on and we know the author is good at writing familial and platonic relationship quite well.
