Well, considering the original context that Toshio used to be a sex cyborg and was treated like an object to be passed around from person to person and that Shindou saved him from that situation and refuses to do that to him and now takes care of him, I would say yeah this story is pretty cute in comparison to the origins. Plus, they're not in a relationship, Toshio is just really affectionate but Shindou doesn't see him romantically
It's true that knowing that makes it seem cute, but it doesn't change the fact that they look like a father and son. Plus, looking at the author's other manga, you can see that the characters have sex. Personally I find that a bit disturbing

I'm not being sarcastic. Check the last page or two. It shows his younger sister is married with a kid, thus she is well into adulthood. Meaning he is also an adult but his growth was stunted due to the experiments as he's maybe 3ish years older.
