This is my theory:
In music, some intervals sound harsh and tense (dissonant), and some sound smooth and pleasant (consonant).
The ranks in the manhwa use only the harsh-sounding intervals:
Dos (2nd) is harsh
Quarto (4th) is harsh
Septima (7th) is harsh
Octava (8th) is neutral/special
The pleasant-sounding ones (3rd, 5th, 6th) are skipped. The idea is probably that power in this world is not a blessing.. it’s a burden. You get forced into war, controlled by the emperor, used as a weapon. So the author named the ranks after sounds that feel wrong and tense, not beautiful and harmonious. And Primera sits alone at the top.. the one “perfect” note that everything else revolves around. That’s the MC/emperor, the only one who truly holds power on their own terms.
And the Octava being the weakest explains why it’s consonant/pleasant. Those people are almost “normal“ not really weapons of war.

it's reinforcing that only the primera, who gives them the power, kind of like everyone else in the other ranks are complimentary or wouldn't sound 'pleasant' without the existence of the primera. and why octava isn't included in the conscription is because they're not that 'strong' or too reliant on the primera for magic.
probably why healers or support types are more often octava too, or septima; and why the rest is more often offensive types. and funnily, our mc chose octava when it's practically the primera in another 'octave' haha
but maybe that's a reach haha.

actually, what i find weird is the rank system for the gifted. primera, dos, quarto, septima, octavia. at first i thought prime numbers but 4 isn't a prime number. i just dont get the skipped numbers lol
