1. I absolutely LOVE the FL. When this started, I was sure I’d be disappointed eventually. The beautiful art style and the rage coming off the dying FL in chapter 1 made me hope I’d have a FL I would enjoy like all the slightly unhinged, and badass ones I have in my roaster. See, one thing I hate with regression tropes where a FL has been betrayed in the worst ways, is when a FL is simply so happy to have returned in the past that all the bite they had seconds before they died, loses its intensity. I’m 44 chapters deep and my girl’s intensity hasn’t died down at all. She’s on 10 at all times. YES! THANK YOU! I also lowkey love that her being fooled tot he extent that she was makes sense in hindsight. But most of all, a FL with pride and ego always makes for a good story. Especially when they have vengeance in their heart.
2. I love that the political scheming actually feels like watching a game of chess. I feel like some authors are sometimes so ambitious specifically because they boast about the intelligence of their characters, that the entire thing feels more like I’m watching a slightly complicated game of checkers instead. In here, even if characters like her “cousin” (pink haired who’s actually not her cousin after all) act ridiculous, the way the FL maneuvers her pieces and the way the ML is basically a jack of all trades makes it a lot more fun and intriguing to read. PS: the FL’s male cousin wanting to kill Etienne after he came on to him at the banquet was a hilarious bit.
3. Surprisingly, I don’t hate the grandma. She definitely fk’d up in blaming a child for the death of her son and while I can’t pretend to understand how wrecked a person can get when they lose their own child, allowing grief to blind her to her own granddaughter for 8 years and thinking the worse of her during the whole Etienne debacle had me tight. However, something about the way my FL kept her cool when she was accused of being the lover of the vile (now dead) Etienne and addressed her grandmother who had abandoned her for years, just made me fall in love with the FL more and I kind of shrugged off the grandma as a result. I’m lowkey glad that the situation concluded with a change in behavior from the grandma. FL now has a present family member to back her. As they say, better late than never.
4. The ML is delicious. When he gave her the three slices of pie as a condition to do what she requested, I found myself thinking “you can also feed me that pie.” Man, that man is hot. Even with a mask on, he far surpasses every single other man in this bxtch (with only the blue haired chancellor and the ML’s red head aid being hotties in their own right). I could watch Acares aka Cesare all day. It makes it even better that he’s cousins with the piece of shxt the FL loved in her past life as we can see how terrified he actually is of the ML. Speaking of the fcker…
5. Killing your own kids? Yeah, he’s worse than vile. I CANNOT wait for her to kill that fcker. And my heart breaks for the FL, but please let your children go. Maybe they’ve also incarnated in other children. Who knows? But please let them go. I only say this because she thought about them in the middle of wanting to kill him after their first encounter in her second life. That worried me a bit, that she felt that by killing him, they’d never exist… because ain’t no way she’d get with him right?
