Why is cristine's eyes closed? Is she blind? I dont understand

I think it means Asian eyes, to be more specific Chinese or Korean natural eyes

In most Japanese manga they do that to refer to the Chinese. Well at least from my experience of watching and reading manga for 20 years of my life.
