It’s always been well written. That scene was put there so the relationship was framed as broken from the start. ML loves MC very deeply but he is MESSED up. Just because we’re seeing a nuanced perspective of him now doesn’t change that. Also, that scene was obviously planned from the start- the entire first season was building up to it.
I understand where you're coming from, but remember, Dohun thinks that sex makes people happy (due to his own abuse and sexual assault). He thought that Yuwon was abandoning him because he wasn't happy. He references that during that scene as well. It is, infact, not out of character at all. Remember that he is extremely mentally ill and does not percieve these things the same way (which is not to excuse his actions, but to say it's 'out of character' or 'not well written' would be incorrect, as it fits perfectly into the context and Dohuns belief that sex is what brings people happiness, an idea he internalized from his own SA when he was kidnapped, as well as his abuse.)

This became so well written that the first episodes genuinely make no sense and out of character. Genuinely confused how did ml go from being this aware and deeply caring for the mc to just raping him
