Are you slow fiction plus real life historical events cannot coincide with each other because it always ends in turmoil in what world is it appropriate for a Korean woman who doesn’t know the first thing about the antebellum south to create a story with the premise of a white man coming back from war ““ freeing the slaves like it’s nothing and having an indigenous man ride up on his horse and call himself his slave/property don’t piss me off genuinely don’t piss me off delete this comment before I report your account

These people cant handle mc having inherited slaves (that he freed & gave a lot lot money) so thats the major spark of the freak out, but there are also people that think a Korean person wont do research and make the mc a white savior (they haven't read the summary)

I see, I want to give it a chance we're only in chapter 1 judge.. maybe it's gonna be explained on the next chapters too

You're missing the part that the "fictional" story is still set against a very "real" historical backdrop which is the Civil War !! The characters may be fictional, but the setting, events, and social realities they're depicting are not.

To give an example, imagine someone wrote a fictional story about a group of fictional characters living during World War II and decided to portray a romance in N*zi Germany in a way that ignored or altered major "historical realities" which will probably be the case with this story as well, since it's a webtoon.... So, even if the characters themselves are fictional, people would still criticize it because it's using a real historical event that carries a lot of weight !

I see, well I hope author can still claim themselves on the next chapters but I honestly still want to give it a chance, and thanks btw for the explanation! Finally a comment that's educating rather than popping their heads with anger

Omg ?? I genuinely thought you were asking in good faith, but you’re actually just trolling !
The Indigenous character telling the white man he’s his “humble slave” in a Civil War setting already shows how messed up this portrayal is. Like, how much more worse does the story need to get before the criticism becomes valid ?

You’re welcome, but if you’re saying you need to wait for the next chapters before judging, I’m not sure you fully understood the issue...

Gosh that Omg is for my typo and I'm the type of reader who will not drop the book just for reading chapter 1 and summary so if you'll drop reading this manhua I respect that, and hopefully you do the same too

Why do you people always see the problem when we're talking about WWII and Nazi Germany, but the point flies south when it's slavery and colionism ? It's almost like it's a super sensitive subject in which has been butchered many times from people descendant from the ones overwhelmingly committing the violence and deny to this day its affect. And no, I did not want to hear it from someone that comes from a place with massive unchecked anti-blackness, that comes out of a majority of the art produced by them (yes and not all of them). This is one that requires a lot of research and since its probably a romance ( not a love story) it will come with its loads of problems naturally. Im genuinely tired of this, at a time where racism is on the rise, are those the stories we want to read ? Is it so hard to leave people alone ? This is not a necessary story. If she wanted a cowboy story she could've simply written one without dragging a heavy topic into it. Don't treat people's history so lightly, this is not game.

Suit yourself, but I’d say that’s a pretty questionable take...
Some creative choices are already worthy of criticism from the premise alone.
And there are plenty of cowboy stories out there if that’s the appeal, but choosing to continue supporting a story that romanticizes an issue like this is sad.

Thank you !!! I really get frustrated when people say that we cant judge if something is not done yet. But that applies if the concept is interesting, could be pushed further. Sometimes, the premise alone is just bad. Something needing more work or more thought put into it is not necessarily a bad thing. The idea is just bad

Ww2 and slavery arent comparable & settling a complex heavy story with "you could of just had cowboys" is laughable.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not telling anyone not to judge in one chapter. I'm saying it's MY preference, and I'm not shoving the idea to anyone here to keep reading something they don't want, like I said to the other reply here that I totally respect if they hate this manhua from chapter one alone like you.. I leave it you guys, while I decide to give it a try some more because it's my choice and that's the type of reader I am so let me also do what I want, maybe I'll drop too for who knows when though I really appreciate your input as well honestly I just read your other reply here

No they aren't comparable, like many human atrocities are not, but my comparison was more for the reaction then the events in on itself. Like I said both of them are touchy subjects that should be handled with care( sorry if that wasn't clear enough). Also, you can have a complex and heavy story without being weird about lol. Cowboys stories can be incredible commentary on violence, colionism, homophobia, patriarchy and misogyny( most of the Cowboys stories i have read or watched were about a combination them in some ways, but thats on top of my head). That's what I meant in " you could've just have Cowboys" especially since the author seems to like the aesthetic a lot. You can do research for your story, pretty sure that's a requirement.

I totally get it, I myself will probably swing back to see how it goes. But i acknowledge that I'm a bit jumpy after too many experience of jumpscare racism in like too many things and especially in stuff I thought wouldn't have them ( wayyy too many manwhas, mangas, books, etc) so I could be too hasty and there's a point to it all. I just kinda lost too much faith in humanity haha. Thank you for you opinion and respectful discussion
