My point exactly. But there were cases where people who supported the abolishment of Slavery in America still owned enslaved African people to work on their plantations to generate wealth, since they were seen as assets, not people. Not owning any before abolition would mean they were basically broke, so they 'bought' people to make money, even if it conflicted with their own beliefs.

I’m a little confused, if dern and his father were with the union, and even caught against the confederacy. Then why does he have brown ppl in his possession?? What gives him the ability to “sell” them, and the right to free them. Did his father own slaves? Like I don’t understand ._.
