But there were cases where people who supported the abolishment of Slavery in America still owned enslaved African people to work on their plantations to generate wealth, since they were seen as assets, not people. Not owning any before abolition would mean they were basically broke, so they 'bought' people to make money, even if it conflicted with their own beliefs.
