Not him freeing the slaves, and telling them they can leave if they want to, as if they have the means to do so. Like unless this needs to be spelled out for the author, (and maybe a few others...) slaves didn't have any rights, they didn't know how to read, they didn't have income, they didn't have an education, I mean sheer list of human rights that was taken from slaves is endless. So his great big white savior moment speech, just falls flat and comes across as, "I know you guys don't have anywhere to go, but I'd like to make myself feel better by saying you're "free" so its up to you how you decide to survive in a world that punishes you for just existing!" Not to mention it undermines the efforts of black people during this time who worked hard to fight against slavery. And don't even get me started on the authors half assed effort on drawing said slaves.
I know some might say I yapped, but as a person who's family line actually does trace back to slavery, its just so disgusting to see it misrepresented and glazed over just so an author can give their character some "heroic" traits.
