My guess is that her mom probably did try to transfer it to a living thing be it plants or animals, but it could not be, her only choice left was transfer it to another human and let them pay the price or she has to transfer it to herself since she(fl) is already running out of time as the curse was spreading onto her.
So I’m not very far in this, but the emperor said that the curse could only be transferred to a living thing and that’s why the empress transferred it to herself. Is there a reason why she couldn’t transfer it to an animal, plant, or hell just kidnap a criminal with her magic and transfer it to them. It just seems really unnecessary…
