I totally understand why but I'm still sad...

I hope we get this story as a fixed version in the future (not the slave x master trope and just some cowboys like what we originally thought this was going to be about). I really liked the MC's character, like the sad backstory of finding he's lost his entire family after he came back from a war and then just wanting to get rid of everything he inherited because he doesn't have any use for it by himself. And then healing with the power of love when one of the ranch cowboys (not a slave but an actual hired person) doesn't want him to get rid of the ranch. And there'd maybe be the "trial period" trope and some guilt tripping like "this is my whole career and you're firing me?" where the cowboy ML makes MC try running the ranch with him for a while and if he still desides it's not worth it then get rid of it or something.

the slaves thing isn't even central to the plot though, if she just made them regular laborers and not inherited properties from the start we coulda avoided this whole mess I'm literally gonna kms

This was during the midst of the civil war, there were no “regular laborers” lol, maybe if you were white you would be considered a regular laborer but if you were anything else you would’ve been considered below a laborer.

I mean they yeah that too, just make it a different era or setting, remove any likeness to real world history. hell this coulda been an eastern cowboy story set in Europe

Fully agreed! I loved the premise of this. I feel like cowboys aren't that common in BL and was excited for it. And since this is JAXX, I was extra excited! I think this could have worked, if this was set 10-20 years after civil war.

It could have been something like, a story about a formerly rich white boy whose family lost all fortune after the civil war. He grew up in the family inherited ranch, raking debt from the dad who couldn't accept how their family fell but refused to sell the ranch as the only reminder of their former wealth, or something. After the mc's dad died when the MC is 25 in 1880 post war America. After his father's death the mc became severely depressed + some abused dealt by the father or whatever. The point is the MC is looking to sell his ranch to decreased the debt. And the ML is the cowboy who's looking to buy a ranch from MC. He's some rich cowboy ranch tycoon or something. It could have been the kind of story you described.

Like, really. This needed a few tweaks. I don't understand why the producer greenlit without suggesting some changes! T^T Hopefully, this will see the light of day after some rework it.
