it's just so tragic, Theo really loved Gunner so much so that he's willing to believe he's going to change even after all he has done. Gunner unfortunately fumbled so hard because he wants to prove himself worthy for Theo. It didn't really matter to Theo, he loves him for who he is but Gunner was driven by his need to be on an equal footing with Theo. Their whole relationship is so heartbreaking and I feel especially bad towards Theo, he genuinely loved that man, even making his life goal; getting the greenhouse, hoping to go back from the past where both he and Gunner were loving each other to the fullest.
