wow wow wow this is amazing holy moly. One thing I really didn't like about historical fantasy romance is that some are usually written to highlight just how amazing the male lead(s) are or who is the most amazing among the male lead(s) rather than building up characters and relationships. Some often adhere to cliches like sisters (or rather women as a whole) are pitting against each other because of a man or a man's doing. This, on the other hand, doesn't do any of that and calls out most cliches in a satirical way. I love how both FL and ML are equally interesting and the way they banter with each other is honestly endearing. I love how this was both entertaining and complex with the cringy lines and emotional build up between their relationship.
I especially love the family bond the Sevess family had. When a loving family is shown in rofantasy genres it's usually between father-daughter and/or brothers/sisters (with the mother usually being deceased or portrayed as an evil bully) However, this one is focused on sister-to-sister relationship. It's rare to see sisters not being sworn enemies while both of them are still being equally compelling instead of just focusing on the female lead. Although I wished they had more scenes with their mother.
Delle questioning why the Divine let destruction happen is valid. As an atheist, that part felt quite similar to how we often question why God let children suffer, why incurable diseases exist, and why there are cruel factors in this world that are happening when it's created by a supposed omnipotent, all loving, and all powerful God. However, he lost me when he decided to think that angels are superior beings that should have more power than anyone else and decided that the world should be destroyed because that isn't the case.
Another thing I'd like to mention is how Elena developed friendship with Rinoa and Peria. Both of them had character development because of Elena but that doesn't erase the fact that they're both strong and independent as an individual. I really liked that they highlighted that Elena simply gave both of them courage and credited both of them for doing what they actually wanted to do.
One more thing is Elena's identity crisis and internal conflict with her sense of belongingness in this world. She believes that all these affections are only directed towards OG Elena and she feels guilty for stealing this and "deceiving" them. It is a valid sentiment because Elena can never really explain what happened to OG Elena. It's so heartbreaking to see OG Elena push her soul out of her own body out of guilt and as an act of repentance for what she did in her past life, when in reality she was simply deceived by Delle. Did she get transmigrated to the modern world? I'm like 90% sure she was. Even so I'm really glad that happened.
Elena's development is also not to be under appreciated. At the beginning she treated this world like some sort of game and only cared about the romance themes of being transmigrated. However, after understanding Lariette, meeting Klaus, and seeing how the world interacted with the people, she soon realized that this world is important to them and it shouldn't be treated so lightly. Even though she feels like an outsider in this world she still wanted to do everything she can to help Klaus, Lariette, and everyone else. Elena can only feel like herself when she's with Klaus but that didn't mean she didn't love her family. She seeks comfort in the fact that Klaus knows everything and being with him made her love this world more than ever. Klaus ofcourse love her just as much considering she is her salvation. Elena is his saving grace. That he would be able stop the world's destruction and live a happy life with her.
Peria/Michael/Delle's story is probably the most tragic here. Michael and Peria loved each other to the utmost. Even uttering Peria's name as he took his last breath. Delle, after being pen pals with Peria, realized why Michael loved her so much. Delle grew jealous towards Michael cause he would never ever be the person Peria could love. Peria even recognized at one glance that the man before her wasn't the Michael she truly love. Delle is foolish for thinking he can love Peria while plotting the world's destruction. It's ironic how an angel who wished for the world's end would fall for a human.
and most importantly, i love the chibis with the animal features
