I've been waiting for someone to say this. My theory is that if we stop looking at them as characters and instead as people going through something, his decision becomes much more understandable. The uke clearly values the lives of the people he loves more than his own. His self-sacrificing way of loving would never allow him to accept the seme giving up his lifespan just so they could stay together longer. People like that are usually unwilling to let the ones they love sacrifice themselves for them in any way. To back that up, he literally put his own body on the line with little to no hesitation and without worrying about the long-term consequences, showing this has always been part of who he is. Sorry I know that's a lot-
remember how the snake almost died when he tried to make grandpa live longer, if he does that again he'll die way before potato reach 90
also if its gonna harm the snake, potato will refuse to live longer
i think they're foreshadowing the ending of potato dying and reborn years later and eventually get reunited with his family
or maybe he'll reborn as an immortal being and live together forever with his family
It still feels kind of selfish. He can't stand soemone sacrificing themself for him and ending up alone. But wnats to leave the other alone...
I don't understand why they just can't share the lifespan of the seme together and live as long as they can together, then die together...
All that reincarnation shit is so sad, since the uke will die again eventually. x)
Don't mind me, I've just read a lot of webnovels similar to this. And I find it way better when the couple cares for each other the most and doesn't want to let the other suffer being alone. :'(
nah girl i underestand i went into that phase where i was reading too much book about mortals x immortals (i traumatized myself lol)
iirc in the earliest chapters the snake was about to die if potato didn't save his ahh so i guess snake bro doesn't have enough power to stop potato from aging and eventually dying and since when he wanted to make gramps lives longer, snake almost died as well
it's tragic since one will live with the memories for idk how many years and will witness his lover dying in everytime while the other will die and reborn again
(this lwk like that 7 deadly sins anime)
nahh it's fine everybody's entitled to their own opinion I just like conversations like this cuz I've also read a lot of with novels similar to it BUT HAVING SAID THAT
I get why it feels selfish on the surface, but I actually think it's the opposite. From his perspective, accepting the seme's lifespan would mean living because the person he loves shortened his own life for him, and that's something his character has never been able to accept. He's consistently shown that he'd rather be the one to suffer than let someone he loves make that kind of sacrifice.
The irony is that both of them are trying to protect each other from being left alone, but they have completely different ideas of what that protection looks like. The seme is willing to sacrifice part of his life so they can have more time together, while the uke would rather lose that time than live knowing it came at the seme's expense. Neither choice is really selfish they're both acting out of love, just in different ways.
Then the uke is being cruel without even realizing it... which is even more cruel... :'))
It's like if he isn't here to see the seme suffering, then it isn't his problem anymore? (I'm being a bit mean here x))
I mean I understand he would feel guilty if the seme would need to sacrifice half his lifespan for him. But when he realises that a long life of suffering alone isn't what the seme wants to be left with. If the uke doesn't mind the seme suffering alone just so he won't feel guilty about sharing his lifespan, that's what I'd call being selfish.
Even if the uke thinks he is the one sacrificing himself. But it's just meaningless...
I'm not against the uke in anyway, he is just a character that was written like that... :'))
I understand if there is no way for the seme to prolong the uke's life without the seme dying... It would be meaningless. So just letting the uke die at the end of his lifespan is the only possibility they have to spend a little time together.
Which is just sad and depressing... :')))))))))))))))))))))
I actually don't disagree with that. They're both trying to spare each other from suffering, but the way they define "suffering" is completely different. Neither of them is really thinking, "I'd rather you suffer." They're both making the choice they genuinely believe hurts the other person the least, even though it ends up causing the opposite. That's why it's such a heartbreaking situation there isn't a solution that both of them could emotionally accept without feeling any type of longing or regret...look idk the shit just got me really sad and stuff

I don't understand why the uke is so against sharing the seme's lifespan... that way they can live together then die together. And he won't leave the seme alone mourning for him during the long life that the seme is left with...
It is a bit cruel from the uke...
This drama is just dumb... :')
