in the beginning it said that the reason the world has become dystopian is because the dead just suddenly started moving again with NO clear pattern and NO reason at all (that they know of).
we can theorize that there is obviously something supernatural going on ! but setting that aside i want to talk about the symbolism of guwon and jinwoo.
guwon in korean is 'salvation' and he obviously helped jinwoo in the first chapter. next, jinwoo is an unreliable narrator, guwon never really did kill his father, it was another person attempting to take his life. i think it's already foreshadowed by the way his family picture frame's breakage originates from his father's face!
the transliteration of the manhwa is "hounds of sisyphus" and i really like the idea that jinwoo is sisyphus, id like to think that he's one of those people that died and came back to life BUT with his own full autonomy, even i want to stretch this out to saying he Might be immortal or he might have lived this life already.
if jinwoo is sisyphus, id like to think that guwon is the Hound!! and not just any hound, in Greek mythology the very famous hound is cerberus! the guard dog of hell which famously guarded the underworld so the dead wont leave, but in this situation its actually the opposite. hes a hound that takes care of the undead ! hes introduced with his hands emerging from the rubble, like introducing a character that came from hell (more support that hes kind of cerberus plus hes such a pup)
guwon promises paradise in his own twisted way, and protects it too. theres also a symbol of sisyphus when he showed a big boulder sitting atop of the mountain that he even verbalized to be scared that it'd fall! it can mean something in the future once jinwoo reveals more things :))
so generally, we still dont even know the cause of the dystopia, jinwoo's deal, and guwom's origin. but i like to think that the uke is someone that the seme needs to watch so paradise wont be disrupted.
theory!
