I mean honestly parental love is just something that people in that situation crave. I did for the longest time even though for years my dad would neglect me, hit me, and sometimes starve me. Despite that for years I still wanted him to love me. Eventually I did come to realize that no matter what I do he'll never actually love me but it took me over a decade to realize that. Although I still have to remind myself that Ettiene isn't being smart, I can relate because I also used to do that. While his choices aren't rational, for someone in that situation looking for things to get better, they can be seen as the better choice
Please be kind and careful with your words, especially when someone is going through hardship. Especially Etienne. We literally read about his life and how his mother and father neglected and abused the hell out of him. Yet someone below is complaining about how “retarded” he is. HE WAS LITERALLY ABUSED WHEN HE WAS A CHILD TILL NOW.
He wants to be loved by those same abusers. He can’t think straight because he was abused for so long that it AFFECTED his judgment and the choices he makes in life.
It’s just stupid. Are you guys even reading the story, or are you just mindlessly scrolling and hating on someone who’s clearly suffering from years of abuse?
