ehhhhhhhh this feels like two stories badly woven together the modern sections were, in isolation from the story of the past life, cute, and the dynamic is cute but against a backdrop of horrific abuse, to the point of wishing to never feel anything ever again and meaning it, it's narrative whiplash. it's disconnected, extremely poorly justified, and it just ends up feeling deeply uncomfortable so he suddenly gets his memories back and can suddenly feel emotions and he.....can even stand being in the same room as the dragon? i don't believe it. the story doesn't give me a reason to believe it. he literally wished to never feel emotions again because of what the dragon put him through, and having suddenly regained his memories would be such a huge shock on him--especially as someone who has *never felt an emotion up to that point*--that it probably realistically would have put him in a coma. how convenient that it happened just before the end of s1 (after we got chapters and chapters and chapters of rape) and that he just, what, accepts it? "for the baby"? it's almost like they're simultaneously trying to use the rape storyline for drama while also glossing over it with humor and going "but look they're okay now!!!" without any actual emotional resolution that makes sense very, very weird story, which is a shame
Your comment perfectly incapsulates how I feel too. It's like the author wants the dramatic moments but without the consequences. The baby actually annoyed me as it's not letting him fully be intune with his emotions and keeps feeling guilty when it's not even his fault
