you can't blame a child that's been abused is hoping for a better relationship with his mother

Etienne may be stupid, dumb for hoping and expecting things between his mother and him will be fixed. unfortunately, it is a sad reality for children who grew up with abuse disguised as love, and them craving care from their abuser is so devastating. i just hope things would be better for him and Rishar cause god damn it they deserve all the happiness and peace in that damn world.
