It also really stunted his personal development because he lost the chance to grow enough to CHOOSE to leave his family behind. He never went through that process so when they come back into his life 10 years later, pretty much nothing has changed in their dynamic. He still can’t acknowledge his self worth or truly sever his emotional ties to his family

cheol has no affection left in him for his family, its all feelings of anger and regret. hes just incredibly frustrated but wont do anything about it because hes trapped in a mentality that prevents him from doing anything but he isnt violent nor vengeful. u cant see how much he cares abr his family by how he treats his younger brother. there is zero “but thats my flesh and blood” there. he was paralyzed mentally and physically from doing anything be cause his father beat him before he had the courage to do so. he grew up a bum with little growth because traumatic shit like that doesnt just go away cz u moved out of ur home

I don't think some of you understand that even if your family is horrible and are insanely bad people, THEY ARE STILL YOUR FAMILY. those are the people who share your blood, who you were born to and with, they are not people who you can throw away easily and this goes for cheol and maybe other people reading this, if you are someone who stopped contacting your family or cut contact with bad family members, GOOD FOR YOU BUT CHEOL HAS A DIFFERENT MINDSET JUST LIKE HOW EVERYONE HAS DIFFERENT OPINIONS. EVERYONE WITHOUT FAIL IS DIFFERENT FROM ONE ANOTHER. And worst of it all he is someone who constantly seeks approval and closure so that's even more of a reason why he cannot let them go. In NO WAY am I trying to defend cheols family, I am trying to show people that everyone thinks of things differently and hating on cheol isn't gonna make things any different
