yeah i finally gathered my thoughts and honestly... i liked it way more than i expected.
the storytelling is so intentional. every time i think back on it i realize there was symbolism i completely missed. the art itself tells the story just as much as the dialogue does.
the incest obviously made me uncomfortable but i don’t think it was included just for shock value or fetish content. it’s actually tied to the story’s exploration of trauma and whether people can ever escape their past which is why i think it worked narratively.
theo was probably my favorite character to analyze. he’s so consumed by guilt that he almost sees suffering as a form of repentance and i found that way more interesting than the relationship itself. i also love that the story doesn’t spell everything out. i kept going back and forth on whether the ghosts were actually real or just manifestations of trauma.
so yeah i’d say it’s worth reading if u’re okay with really dark stories. it’s definitely not for everyone and if incest is a hard limit for u then i’d skip it. but if u like psychological stories with a lot of symbolism and stories that leave room for interpretation, i think it’s really well done.

i’d go back here when i’m done forming my thoughts
