its not to try and make sympathise with him but more of understand why he is acting this way AFTER the fact. He was once so loved at one point and it all broke apart in an instance. And now he is craving that affection from someone who is so unwilling to reciprocate that they have abandoned him hence why he is so impacted by it. If it wasnt for his back story people might say “he is overreacting.. acting this was after raping that person” which is not untrue but at the same time it opens up to the idea that he has had trauma from loving someone and this isnt an instance where “the person i love doesnt love me back ” but more of “Once again im being abandoned by the person i love”. Not so much on because his feelings arent reciprocated but more so on the fact that he is reopening old ‘abandonment’ scars.
Well I find it to be a very lazy justification and yes it is justification for his past actions. It doesn’t make sense to explain away horrible behaviors in your adult life with what happened when you were a kid, going to therapy would be the best solution not hurting the person you claim to love and expecting the audience to overlook it cuz your parents didn’t love you, he needs to grow up and authors need to stop using the trope it is tired and let the characters seat in the discomfort and accept that they’re terrible people that did terrible things instead of excusing it with a bad past, it didn’t work in jinx and it’s not working here either. I still think Mokyeon is not some hapless victim of circumstance but a selfish and bad person who blackmailed his love interest and hurt his friends
i dont think you are reading what i have written… Im saying his backstory is COMPLETELY UNRELATED to how he was in season 1 but more on WHY HE IS SO SAD in season 2. His backstory has no impact on his character in season 1 because being abandoned does not and never will justify rape. Never in my paragraph did i say “he was abandoned hence he acted like… in season 1” but i said “he was abandoned before hence why he is drowning himself in alchohol after being abandoned again”. It doesn't matter if he was a bad person, he opened up his old wounds that was pretty traumatic for a boy. And you talk about therapy. In what world would he have enough disposable income to get therapy. NO ONE said he was a victim. literally no one. no one is justifying his actions. never in my paragraph did i label him as a victim and never in my paragraph did i say its a justification. Actually i said “its NOT trying to make you sympathise with him”
i honestly dont expect that to happen anyways. Most people read yaoi just for the smut and shut their brain off when it comes to lore and then complain without understanding why the story is flowing this way and why the backstory is shown now instead of later on when they meet again and he apologises

So I lowkey am not interested in Mokyeon’s backstory, it is sad tho but I don’t see how it will be relevant to the story moving forward maybe it’s the author’s attempt at softening Mokyeon who was a manipulative little shit for the better part of season 1, make him easier to root for kinda reminds me of what they did with Joo Jaekyung in jinx. I can’t wait to see Nanjo tho
