While I don’t know the reason exactly, I suspect it's because they are overworked. For the most majority of these authors, writing and drawing manhwas is a full-time job, meaning that heir income comes from this work.
It can also be because of the pressure for meeting deadlines and releasing the chapters on schedule. Sometimes when they don't have enough time, they take a one week hiatus for a specific chapter, or just take a regular one week hiatus every 4-5 chapters.
In many creator's notes, I have noticed how authors often say they are writing or drawing like crazy to meet the deadlines, sometimes without sleeping or eating properly or even without moving from the same exact spot for a whole day.
When these habits become repetitive, and we are talking every day for at least two weeks, it can seriously influence one’s health, both physically and mentally. The main causes are exhaustion and malnourishing, which therefore weakens the immune system and makes you more prone to getting sick/catching diseases than others.
I remember one case people were talking about where an author had a miscarriage because she was overworked by the company. I'm don't remember the whole situation exactly, but I do recall people talking about a miscarriage, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, it's a harsh reality. And the worst part about this whole overworking situation is that they aren't paid much; most of the profits go to the company they are signed under (official platforms like Lezhin, Tappytoon etc), and we are talking more than 50% - my honest estimation is 70-80%, but I could be wrong.

This is why supporting the author by reading legally is promoted a lot. I mean, I'm not one to talk since I am writing these comments here on an illegal reading website… It's just that I don't have the financial resources at the moment to support these authors and the purchasing system on these platforms is really crap. But I do plan soon to try and purchase at least one chapter per manhwas that I read.

If you are unsure if it's worth buying those chapters for a new manhwa out of fear if them being bad or just not for you, you can always read a few chapters on illegal websites for your peace of mind, then go purchase them on the legal ones. If you don’t want to purchase all of them, because most manhwas have many chapters, at least purchase one or a few at random, or even better you could purchase your favorite chapters.

These legal platform also offer ways to purchase chapters without actual real money. For example, you could watch a certain number of adds and then purchase a chapter; it really depends on each platform's system.

We read these authors’ works, we enjoy them, we eagerly wait each week for new chapters, yet we forget that this is literally their job and they need money for just surviving. It's already shitty enough that most of the profit for their work goes to the company, the least people could do is stop complaining when they takes breaks for literal health issues and find a way to support the authors.

What do you think happens when there are very few purchases for a manhwa? It can be discontinued, so stop complaining about the breaks authors take and do something so that they don't stop writing at all.

Remember guys, even if you are reading on illegal websites like this one because you don’t have the funds to purchase the chapters, the least you could do is encourage others to read and purchase legally. You never know, maybe one of those people you encourage has the funds and is willing to purchase the chapters. Even the smallest help would be significant for these authors.
