I'm rereading this rn and I've come to a few realizations that had gone over my head previously and it hurt me deeply so I need to share them.
First is that the first human our little mushroom loved is An Ze. It could be interpreted as parental since his DNA is basically what gave An zhe consciousness or it could be quite romantic since an zhe decided to spend the rest of his days in that cave with an ze's bones after finding his child (spore). whatever shape it takes it's undoubtedly love and that love not only shaped him but made him curious about humanity... and that was his first step in this journey. To be curious and observe humanity closely.
Through loving Lu Feng he came to understand humanity with all it's right and wrong. He inherited Lu Feng's kindness and love for humanity and that ultimately lead him towards saving humanity. Almost like he was acting on behalf of the Lu Feng. It's quite ironic that the one who killed most humans is probably also the one that cared about their fate the most. And don't get me started on Lu Feng's journey because that's such an amazing arc that is not shown in the manhwa so I won't say anything.
But realizing An Ze's story is what really hurt me so deeply. In an era that humanity is so doomed that it simply can't care about any form of art(writing) he felt utterly useless and in his last moments he entrusted himself to An Zhe in hopes of at least becoming someone important after death... and he did... his DNA and his death being the start of An Zhe, the entity that ultimately saves humanity and solves the extinction of all living things... you couldn't have been more important An Ze. His beautiful soul that showed An Zhe kindness and care while he was dying... naming a weird little mushroom that clung to him and seeing it's goodwill instead of being afraid and then leaving him with all he had so he could go on a journey to find his child is what made everything possible... and I truly wish he rests in peace... this was my first time realizing how important of a role An Ze played in all this and saving everyone... and my heart hurts... this author is just another level of genius and this story will forever be my favorite story of all times.
